Fighting Monkey by Anna Rose

Saturday, 30. November 24
10:00 -14:00

Anna Rose is a Berlin-based dance artist, singer, and Inspire by Fighting Monkey® instructor, hailing from the Shawangunk mountains of New York.

During the Fighting Monkey workshop we will be diving into several elements of Fighting Monkey Practice, with an emphasis on communication and partner work. Within the framework of different movement situations, we will work on listening and handling unpredictability. How do we coordinate ourselves internally and in relation to others in a constantly shifting environment? Embracing the space of the unknown, we will work with silence, chaos, rhythm and instinct.

Through the lens of Fighting Monkey Practice we will be looking at how we age and how we can better prepare ourselves for the unknown. How do we spot patterns and potential problem areas before they turn into injuries, and how do we rehabilitate ourselves from injury through movement? We will explore how we can identify and understand our imbalances in an effort to better respect our own structures and take an intentional and active role in our own long-term physical health.

Beginning with her journey into Fighting Monkey Practice in 2016, Rose has been gradually expanding her movement practice into Martial Arts, training in a variety of striking and grappling disciplines.

Over the last 4 years, she has been intensively focused on Muay Thai, the Art of 8 Limbs, spending time in Thailand to train and fight. Anna’s current movement and artistic research is focused on the connection of fighting and dancing, exploring the overlap between principles of combat and collaboration. She is interested in communication through and between bodies, the necessity of nonsense, and silence. Her movement and teaching practices are rooted in rhythm, instinct, chaos, laughter, and a hunger for discovery.
